We've created this FundRazr* for my friends, Lou, Desiree Eden, and their three kids to support them during a critical time in their lives.

In the spring of 2022, Lou was diagnosed with throat cancer. His treatment, concurrent chemo and radiation, began in June. 

Cancer treatment may start easily enough, but it's never easy. And throat cancer is particularly hard. By early August, the extremely difficult realities of Lou's treatment set in. Severe radiation burns, pain that resists even the strongest of medicines, difficulty in swallowing, fevers, loss of taste, nausea..... 

And the bills have become a reality too. 

Medical insurance doesn't cover all the costs of treating cancer. In Lou's case, even though he is not yet through his initial treatment plan, these uncovered costs are already approaching tens of thousands of dollars. 

There's no way to know what further treatment Lou might need for the cancer. And, even after treatment has ended, some throat cancer patients may need help managing the long-term effects of treatment or example,  difficulties with swallowing, speaking, or hearing. 

Stress, especially financial stress, is a powerful road block to healing.

That's why it's so important to help Lou, Desiree Eden, and the kids  now. Knowing that costs will be covered will make it possible for Lou to finish treatment and start his recovery with a greater sense of security. Knowing how deeply he and his family are cared for will help him rest and build hope.
